Self control

 






The term 'temperance,' which means self-control or moderation, is commonly used throughout the Bible. However, self-control is sometimes seen as abstinence. Despite being the last fruit on the list, this is by no means the least.

The Fundamentals of Self-Control Building a personal relationship with God by abide in Christ and obeying the Holy Spirit's instructions is necessary for exercising self-control. The ability to refrain from sinful behaviour is made possible by the glorious Trinity. Self-discipline requires courage, faith, trust, and prayer.

Example of self control 

1.Jesus's Self-Control: Jesus did not take revenge or use his position of authority to get out of his suffering, even after being ridiculed, thrashed, and executed.

2.Daniel's Self-Control: By putting his faith and adherence to God's instructions above eating the king's meal, Daniel showed self-control.

3. Nehemiah's Self-Control: Despite resistance and attacks, Nehemiah remained in charge and disciplined while repairing Jerusalem's walls.

4.Joseph's Self-Control: Joseph showed love and self-control by forgiving his brothers after they sold him into slavery.


How to have self control 

1.Use prayer to ask God for assistance. Request that He give you the fortitude and self-control to withstand temptation and make sensible decisions.

2. According to Romans 12:2, we should refresh our minds in order to be transformed. Gaining knowledge and insight from daily study of God's Word can aid with self-control.

3. As you work towards self-control, surround yourself with believers who can help you stay accountable. 

4.You can become closer to God and learn to control your physical cravings by fasting on a regular basis. The Bible supports this practice (Matthew 6:16-18). Avoid 

5.Take proactive steps to stay away from circumstances or surroundings that can entice you to engage in irresponsible behaviour.

6.  Make sure your eating habits are in balance. 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us that everything we do, including what we eat and drink, should be done for God's glory. 

7.Proverbs 13:3 says, "Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin." Be careful what you say. When you speak, practise self-control and avoid using hurtful or angry language or gossip. 

8.Self-control frequently requires patience. Even in the face of adversity, learn to trust God's plan and wait for His timing.

9. For the areas where you require more self-control, set attainable, well-defined objectives. Monitor your development and acknowledge your accomplishments. 

10.Having a grateful heart will help you lessen your need for instant pleasure and concentrate on the good things in life. 

11. In your quest for self-control, put your trust in the Holy Spirit to lead and empower you. Recall that the Spirit produces self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). Repent and 

12.Don't give up if you make a mistake or give in to temptation. Seek God's pardon, confess your sins, and work towards improvement with His assistance.


Importance of self control 

1. Self-control is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit, according to the Bible (Galatians 5:22–23), thus those who are filled with the Holy Spirit will naturally exhibit self-control.  

2.Basis for Righteous Living: It is believed that exercising self-control is crucial to leading a life that glorifies God and reflects His nature. It assists people in avoiding sin, overcoming temptation, and coordinating their thoughts and deeds with God's will. 

3.Sign of Spiritual Maturity: People who become more self-controlled as their faith deepens show that they have reached a certain level of spiritual maturity.

4.Protection against the Influence of the World: Self-control enables people to withstand the temptation of materialistic wants and maintain their attention on spiritual principles. 

5.Basis for Other Virtues: According to Josh Franklin Sermons, self-control is frequently cited in conjunction with other virtues such as love, joy, peace, and patience because it is thought to be a fundamental component in the development of these other admirable traits.

6. Jesus as an example: Throughout his earthly ministry, Jesus demonstrated the power of restraining oneself from temptation and being true to one's obedience to God. He was the epitome of flawless self-control. 

7.Spiritual combat: Self-control is regarded as an essential weapon in spiritual combat, enabling people to withstand enemy attacks and maintain their faith.
